UNDERGRADUATE COMPUTER LAB RULES

Do not eat or drink in the lab. Keep the lab clean. Crackers, cold snacks and drinks can be consumed only in the study area. But no meals of any kind are allowed in the study area either.

Do not play games of any kind in the lab.

Respect the equipment.  Don’t remove or disconnect any labels, parts or cables. Do not unplug network cables, keyboards, mice or monitors.

You may listen to music only if you use personal headphones and keep the volume at a suitable level.

You may not engage in any harmful or illegal acts using campus property.  This includes but is not limited to: using computers for pornography of any type, threatening other people, or using equipment for destructive purposes.

Make sure that the files that you bring to the lab or download are virus-free. Make a virus scan before opening and do not open if you are not sure if the file is infected.

Keep your passwords to yourself.  Change your password right away if you think someone else may know it.

Never impersonate another user by using their user name / password or sharing yours.  Do not access files, accounts or other systems you are not authorized to use.

Do not leave the computer for more than 10 minutes without logging off. If there is a shortage, other students have the right to log you off if the computer has been idle for more than 10 minutes.

If you have a program that runs for a long time and you have to leave, on a piece of paper make a notice that a program is running, write your name, your telephone number and the start time of the run.

Group work in the lab is allowed, but remember that other people also work, so you should be as quite as possible.

Priorities for use of the computers are as follows. You may be asked to give up your computer if it is needed for a higher priority use
1)    Regular classes meeting in the computer lab, if any
2)    IE 492 students, for working on their projects
3)    Using academic software that is only available in department labs (GAMS, ARENA, etc.)
4)    Working on assigned homeworks, class projects or making literature review
5)    Personal communications (e-mail, web browsing, etc.)
6)    Other personal or recreational uses

Always make copies of your personal files to an external medium, like floppy disk, USB drive, removable disk, CD, DVD. Remember that the files on the hard drives of the computers are subject to deletion at any time.

Violation of lab rules will be punished by temporary or permanent deactivation of your account, according to the severity and repetition of the violation. The laboratory is under the control of surveillance cameras that record video and audio. The records may be used as evidence for inquiry in cases of violation of lab rules.
