BACHELOR OF SCIENCE PROGRAM IN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
The IE Department is one of the most prominent departments at Boğaziçi University and in Turkey, offering B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Acceptance to the freshman class is extremely competitive, requiring one of the highest scores at the National Student Selection and Placement Examination over all engineering and science programs in Turkey. As of the end of academic year 2008-2009, the department has awarded 1757 B.S. degrees. The current undergraduate enrollment is 276.
The course requirements for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering total a minimum of 146 credit hours of formal coursework. The availability of a wide range and different types of elective courses is a significant advantage, adding flexibility to the program. Students may choose courses in production/manufacturing, operations research, decision and information sciences, and system modelling, ergonomics, financial modelling, energy and socio-economic systems, under the supervision of their advisors. The curriculum is regularly updated to reflect scientific advances as well as changing career requirements.
Course projects, independent projects and finally the senior graduate project are an important part of the undergraduate education, through which students gain research exposure. Selected undergraduate students work with faculty members as assistants in research projects. Students are also required to complete a total of 70 workdays of industrial training during the summer breaks.
